Deep massage therapy for chronic pain or recent injury

Deep tissue massage is perfect for athletes, active individuals, and anyone experiencing chronic pain. This therapeutic modality works with the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to break up tension caused by everyday repetitive stress.

It’s also great during recovery after an injury or strain.

Your massage therapist will take the time to understand your concerns and customize your session – selecting a combination of techniques to deliver the relief you need and the lasting results you want.

Why Choose Deep Tissue Massage?

  • Precise Pressure – you enjoy deep pressure, including trigger point therapy
  • Targeted Treatment – you seek relief from chronic tension, headaches, or a specific area of pain
  • Sports Recovery – you want to enhance athletic performance, increase mobility, and reduce recovery time
  • Overall Wellness – you seek to improve circulation, reduce stress, and promote a deep sense of relaxation

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage (also known as sports massage) uses many of the same movements and techniques as a massage for relaxation; however, the pressure is more intense and purposeful. Pressure used depends on the client and therapist’s preferences – and the area(s) to be addressed.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release works with the fascia (connective tissue) associated with muscle tissue (myo). Typically using their fingers, hands, elbows, and forearms, your bodywork specialist will deliver slow, sustained, gentle pressure. Soft tissue is allowed to elongate, return to its original state, and relieve the area of tension and restriction.

Trigger Point Therapy

Also known as neuromuscular therapy, this type of therapy applies alternating pressure to chronic muscle spasm areas in 10-30 second increments. Since pain is often due to an imbalance elsewhere in the body, your therapist may follow trigger point paths to release related tension patterns in your body.

Cupping Therapy

Flexible cups made of medical-grade silicone use suction to release adhesions, muscle tightness, and tension from connective tissue. It also improves tissue health. Cupping is relaxing for most and can provide relief from chronic pain – especially in areas of dense muscle tissue. We use both stationary and gliding techniques in our cupping therapy.

Breathing Techniques

Healthy breathing will be emphasized during your session – breathing in for five seconds (through the nose) and out for five seconds (through the mouth). Massage is applied to the rhythm of your breath, encouraging your body to reach a deep state of relaxation to maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.

Heat and Ice Therapy

Your therapist may apply heat and ice to treat chronic tension or recent injuries. We use hot, moist towels and therapeutic ice packs to alternate hot and cold applications. This treatment helps reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and encourages tissue healing and relaxation.

“Jason is the kind of massage therapist I like. He can do deep work. He pays attention, is responsive. Most of all, with that kind of massage, you get results. Really appreciate the work! Hard to find massage therapists of this level of competency and professionalism.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that targets the deeper layers of the muscle and fascia (connective tissue). A deep tissue massage is typically more intense than a relaxation massage as it aims to release chronic muscle tension or adhesions (commonly known as “knots”).

Is Deep Tissue Right For You?

Deep pressure work is ideal for athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, musicians, artists, or anyone who relies on their body to perform. Repetitive motion leads to chronic pain and unhealthy muscle patterns in the body.

Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?

Deep tissue massage can often be intense, but it’s a myth that it has to hurt to be effective. While some people enjoy that “hurts so good” sensation of deep pressure, others still need relief from pain or injury without a treatment that hurts.

Pressure may be applied through light touch or deep pressure, depending on muscle tissue restrictions in your body. Your practitioner will customize the treatment and adjust to your preference and comfort level.

But if you’re looking for complete relaxation, this won’t be the massage for you.

Can I Talk During A Deep Tissue Session?

You’re welcome to stay silent as you relax and enjoy your treatment or talk with your bodywork practitioner. Other than checking in, asking relevant questions, or reminding you to take a deep breath, we leave it up to you whether you’d like to relax in silence or chat.

We encourage you to ask any questions if you’re curious or speak up if anything needs to be adjusted.
